Stan Wawrinka to retire in 2026
Stan Wawrinka to retire: Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka has announced he will retire in 2026, marking the end of a successful and resilient career.
The three-time major champion shared the news directly with his fans, posting on social media that “every book needs an ending.” He stated his goal is to finish his final season “on the best note possible.”
Wawrinka’s career is notable for its timing. He captured his Grand Slam titles—the Australian Open (2014), French Open (2015), and US Open (2016)—during the era dominated by the legendary trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic. His powerful game broke through to win some of the sport’s biggest prizes.
Now 40 years old, Wawrinka has faced recent challenges with injuries and a lower ranking, but his legacy is secure. Beyond his singles success, his achievements include an Olympic doubles gold medal with Federer in 2008 and being a key part of Switzerland’s first Davis Cup-winning team in 2014.
He will begin his farewell season at the United Cup team event in Perth this January.
